Biedronka eyes Carrefour deal
Biedronka, owned by Jeronimo Martins, plans to exceed 4,000 stores in Poland this year while considering acquiring parts of Carrefour’s franchise network—potentially around 30% of its local assets. CEO Luis Araújo said the move could support Polish entrepreneurs, though regulatory hurdles may arise.
The group reported €36 billion in revenue (+7.6%) and €646 million net profit (+7.9%), but shares fell over 5% after concerns about 2026 margins. Competition remains intense, with deflation and price sensitivity shaping the market.
Biedronka will invest €1.2 billion, open over 120 stores, and launch its 18th distribution center. Sales reached €25.3 billion, with discount stores now holding 44.4% of Poland’s FMCG market, underscoring fierce price-driven competition.
