BIK: Value of requests for housing loans increased 49.0 % y/y in February
The value of mortgage loan applications in Poland rose 49.0% y/y in February, according to the Credit Information Bureau (BIK). A total of 44,490 individuals applied for a housing loan, up 34.5% y/y and 22.6% m/m compared with January 2026.
The average requested mortgage amount reached PLN 497,060, an increase of 10.7% y/y and 1.0% m/m — the highest level on record. BIK attributes the surge to improving creditworthiness, a recovering real estate market, and growing interest in refinancing existing loans. Demand has also been supported by last year’s interest rate cuts and expectations of further reductions in 2026, along with rising nominal and real wages that have increased borrowing capacity.
