Canada enters SAFE and is counting on Polish funds for military contracts
Canada, the only non-European country participating in the EU’s SAFE defense financing mechanism, is seeking a stronger presence in Poland’s defense market. Export Development Canada has announced up to USD 1 bln in support for potential exports of defense and aerospace goods and services to Poland, along with plans to open an office in Warsaw.
The initiative reflects growing strategic cooperation, with both countries encouraging deeper industrial partnerships. Over 60 Canadian firms already operate in Poland, employing around 16,000 people. Canada emphasizes that cooperation should be mutual, inviting Polish companies to enter its market, particularly as it increases defense spending and modernizes its military.
Poland, however, shows stronger interest in expanding into Canada. Both sides stress the importance of local partnerships and joint projects. The move highlights Poland’s rising role in Europe’s defense sector and the broader push to strengthen transatlantic industrial cooperation.
