In 2019, the European Commission placed special emphasis on the enforcement of Community law in areas such as environmental protection, internal market, industry, entrepreneurship and SMEs, as well as transport and mobility. Therefore, half of all the procedures concerned precisely these areas.

Out of all 797 proceedings initiated by the Commission, the most - 175 - concerned the environment. As for Poland, in 2019 the European Commission initiated 37 proceedings against Poland. Most of the procedures concern environmental issues.

Across the community, the number of pending infringement procedures remained stable in 2019. However, the number of new procedures increased by 20 percent compared to the previous year. In the past year, more than half of the infringement procedures related to late transposition of directives.
