China’s Ministry of Commerce has imposed export controls on 14 European Union entities in retaliation for the EU’s latest sanctions on Chinese and Hong Kong companies. The affected organizations include Polish technology company Vigo Photonics and Wrocław University of Science and Technology, as well as Germany’s Rheinmetall and the Czech Republic’s Tatra Trucks. The restrictions prohibit Chinese companies and third parties from supplying the listed entities with China-made dual-use technologies and materials, unless special government approval is granted.

Beijing said the measures protect national security and respond to the EU’s “egregious actions.” The EU’s 21st sanctions package against Russia targets 14 Chinese firms accused of supplying components to Russia’s defense industry.
