Poland is preparing a new climate-adaptation strategy as increasingly frequent heat waves, storms, droughts and flooding generate mounting costs for public finances, companies and households. The government wants to strengthen the resilience of the economy and natural environment while assessing how effectively the country’s previous adaptation measures were implemented.

The potential economic exposure is considerable. Puls Biznesu estimates that Poland is attempting to prevent losses that could reach PLN 120 billion. The strategy is expected to examine vulnerable infrastructure and improve coordination between government, local authorities and businesses. For companies, the issue extends beyond environmental policy: extreme weather can interrupt production, damage buildings, disrupt transport networks and raise insurance and operating costs. Climate resilience is therefore becoming an increasingly important element of investment planning and risk management.
