The compromise text of the regulation on the conditionality of EU funds on compliance with the rule of law has been confirmed by a qualified majority of Member States, Sebastian Fischer, spokesman for the permanent representation of Germany, informed on Twitter.
According to a PAP source close to the meeting of EU ambassadors at which this decision was made, representatives of Poland and Hungary spoke out against it. The ambassadors of these two countries were to emphasize that all elements, i.e. conditionality, the long-term budget and the reconstruction fund, constitute one package and should be adopted unanimously by the EU member states.
