CSO data: largest number of apartments located around higher populations
According to last year's CSO data, the largest number of apartments for use was in counties located around large cities. In 2025, nearly 209,000 new apartments were completed in Poland, slightly more than a year earlier, ending a two-year decline but still well below the 2022 peak. Data from Statistics Poland show that housing development is highly uneven: the highest supply per 1,000 residents is concentrated in large cities and, above all, in surrounding counties. Suburban areas around Warsaw, Wrocław, Poznań, Gdańsk, and especially Rzeszów stand out, while some cities such as Sopot record almost no new housing. Interestingly, areas with strong housing growth often overlap with regions of higher fertility.
Counties around major cities tend to have higher birth rates, while places with weak housing supply (like Sopot) also show the lowest fertility levels.
