Dariusz Wolski nominated for Oscar
Today we got to know the nominations for the 93rd edition of the Oscars. The undisputed favorite is David Fincher's ‘Mank’. The picture won as many as 10 nominations, including for the best film, for directing, leading actor, and supporting actress.
Poles also have someone to cheer on. For the first time in his career, cinematographer Dariusz Wolski will compete for the Oscar statuette. He received a cinematography nomination for the film ‘News of the World’. In total, the movie has a chance for four statuettes.
‘Mank’ in the number of nominations has clearly escaped the competition. The chase group is very diverse. As many as six films won six nominations each. They are: ‘Nomadland’, ‘Minari’, ‘The Trial of the Chicago Seven’, ‘Judas and the Black Messiah’, ‘Sound of Metal’ and ‘The Father’. Five nominations went to: ‘Ma Rainey's Black Bottom’ and ‘Promising Young Woman’.
The nomination for Glenn Close was also noted. The actress will compete for an Oscar for the role that was nominated for the Golden Raspberry just a few days earlier.
From historical events, it is worth noting that Chloe Zhao is the first non-white woman to receive an Oscar nomination for directing. For the first time in history, two women will compete for the statuette in this category.
