EC examining Poland’s PLN 116 mln grant to MAN factory in Niepołomice

The European Commission (EC) has launched an investigation into Poland’s decision to grant PLN 116 million in state aid for the expansion of MAN’s truck factory in Niepołomice. Most of the support—PLN 105.6 million—comes as a corporate tax exemption, with an additional PLN 10.7 million as a direct grant. The aid aims to boost production capacity and create about 1,400 jobs in the Małopolska region, which qualifies for regional support under EU rules.
However, the EC will assess whether the assistance is proportionate, complies with state aid laws, and has a genuine “incentive effect,” meaning MAN would not have expanded without it. The Commission is concerned about potential negative effects on competition despite regional economic benefits.
