The European Commission maintains regular contacts with the Polish authorities regarding the project of the Vistula Spit and a technical meeting is planned to solve technical issues related to the project, EC spokesman Enrico Brivio told PAP on Wednesday. He informed that on December 20, 2018, the Commission sent a letter regarding the construction of a shipping channel from the Gulf of Gdańsk to the port of Elbląg via the Vistula Spit and the Vistula Lagoon.

“To ensure compliance with EU nature conservation legislation, the Commission’s services in this letter asked for clarifications and to stop work until the concerns about proper environmental impact assessment are resolved,” he said. Meanwhile, the Regional Directorate of State Forests in Gdańsk has informed that logging on the Vistula Spit has just been completed.
