EU Warns of Strong Response to U.S. Tariff Plans
The European Union has vowed an immediate and firm reaction to potential new U.S. tariffs proposed by President Donald Trump. The so-called “reciprocal” tariffs would target countries imposing duties on American products, but the European Commission considers this a "step in the wrong direction."
Brussels emphasized that the EU maintains some of the world's lowest tariffs, with over 70 percent of imports entering tariff-free. The Commission warned that such measures would ultimately hurt American consumers, raise business costs, slow economic growth, and fuel inflation.
The EU is prepared to defend its economic interests and protect businesses, workers, and consumers from unjustified trade barriers, signaling a potential escalation in transatlantic trade tensions.
