Fuel consumption in Poland up 7% in 2021

Economic development and increased mobility of the society meant that last year, despite higher prices, fuel consumption in our country increased by 7 percent compared to 2020, according to the POPiHN report presented on Thursday. Last year, gasoline and diesel prices increased by more than 20 percent and autogas prices – by more than 30 percent.
The report of the Polish Organization of Petroleum Industry and Trade "Petroleum Industry and Trade 2021" presents the most important economic events of last year and strategic challenges for the fuel sector.
“This year was full of important events – due to the lifting of pandemic restrictions, the economic rebound in Poland saw an increase in fuel consumption,” Leszek Wiwała, president and general director of POPiHN, said.
He added that crude oil prices were rising all the time because the increase in demand for fuels was not balanced with a corresponding increase in production – mainly by OPEC countries. Increases in gas and electricity prices also had an impact on fuel prices.
