Gdansk becomes eighth most important port in EU, overtaking Amsterdam
The Port of Gdańsk ranked eighth among European ports and sixth in the EU by cargo throughput in 2025, surpassing ports in Valencia, Amsterdam and Constanța. The port handled 80.4 mln tonnes of cargo during the year.
Europe’s largest port remains the Port of Rotterdam, with 428.4 mln tonnes, followed by Port of Antwerp-Bruges.
Liquid fuels were the largest cargo group in Gdańsk, totaling 39.6 mln tonnes, nearly half of all throughput. The Naftoport handled a record 37.4 mln tonnes of crude oil. Container traffic also grew strongly, reaching nearly 2.8 mln TEU, up 23% y/y, with most handled at the Baltic Hub Container Terminal. In total, 4,394 ships called at the port in 2025.
