Port Gdańsk is strengthening its position as a logistics hub for Central and Eastern Europe. In the first half of 2026, container throughput rose 23% year over year, potentially lifting it from 13th to 11th in European rankings. Experts expect it could exceed 3 million TEU this year. Hamburg, by contrast, saw throughput fall 3.8%. Analysts describe this as a gradual redistribution of cargo flows, not a direct transfer of business from German ports.

Gdańsk handled under 2.8 million TEU last year, far below Rotterdam, Antwerp and Hamburg. Its growth reflects regional demand, ocean links and transport infrastructure. Geopolitical shifts may reroute cargo and diversify sourcing beyond China. Containerized trade between Poland and the United States rose nearly 20% in 2025.
