The Hollywood Foreign Press Association awarded film productions for the 78th time and television productions for the 66th time. The 78th Golden Globes ceremony was held virtually due to the pandemic not only in Los Angeles but also in New York.

The Golden Globe Award for the best series was awarded to the series "The Crown". Playing in as Princess Diana, Emma Corin was honored as the best actress in a drama series. The performance of Margaret Thatcher's role-playing Gillian Anderson was voted Best Female Supporting Role, and Josh O'Connor, who played Prince Charles, won the Best Actor award.

The statuette for the best drama film went to "Nomadland" and Chloe Zhao, its creator, was recognized as the best director. Two awards also went to Sacha Baron Cohen. His "Another Film About Borat" won in the category of the best comedy film or musical, and the actor received the statuette for the best actor in this category.

Aaron Sorkin for "The Chicago Seven Trial" was honored for the best screenplay.

The Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Drama Film was won by Andra Day for her performance in "The United States vs. Billie Holiday," and Chadwick Boseman was named posthumously Best Drama Actor for her performance in "Ma Rainey: The Mother of Blues." Jodie Foster won the Best Supporting Actress in this category for her role in "The Moorish."

The award for the best TV film or mini-series went to "The Queen's Gambit", starring Marcin Dorociński as Wasilij Borgow. Anya Taylor-Joy, who played the lead role, was honored for the best leading role in this category.
