High barrier for PLN 1.5 bln to be built on the border with Belarus

The government adopted a bill assuming the construction of a solid, high barrier, equipped with a monitoring and traffic detection system. It is supposed to protect the Polish border with Belarus. Moreover, a plenipotentiary and a special team are to be appointed to implement this project.
"The actions of the Lukashenka regime required a strong response from our government," Mariusz Kamiński, Minister of the Interior and Administration, said.
The head of the Ministry of Interior and Administration pointed out that the number of attempts to cross the Polish border in recent weeks has increased, and therefore urgent measures should be taken to build a solid, high dam. The number of migrants is growing, despite the introduction of a state of emergency (effective from September 2 in the border zone) and high barriers along the entire Polish-Belarusian border.
"Such technical security of the border has already proved successful in other countries as an effective solution in the fight against illegal migration," Kamiński emphasized.
Meanwhile, the cost of building a barrier on the eastern border of Poland was estimated at PLN 1.6 billion.
