Jennifer Croft wins the Found in Translation Award 2022
The Book Institute, the Polish Cultural Institute in London and the Polish Cultural Institute in New York are pleased to announce that the Found in Translation 2022 award goes to Jennifer Croft for the translation of Olga Tokarczuk's The Books of Jacob, published by Fitzcarraldo Editions in Great Britain (2021) and Riverhead Books in the United States (2022).
The year 2021 was extremely successful for the translations of Polish literature – excellent Polish books were published in English, ranging from classics to contemporary literature, prose, drama and poetry. Talented beginners and acclaimed translators have made both the long and short lists. In this year's edition, the jury decided to award Jennifer Croft's translation for the excellent depiction of the diversity and complexity of the Tokarczuk magnum opus.
The Books of Jacob, published for the first time in Polish in 2014, is a portrait of the Enlightenment Europe on the threshold of sudden changes, looking for clarity and longing for transcendence.
Jennifer Croft is an American writer, critic and translator who translated from Polish, Ukrainian and Spanish.
