Lithuanian defense minister issue warning about expansion of Russian war into Poland
Russia could attempt to expand the conflict into Poland and the Baltic states if its military position in Ukraine deteriorates, Lithuanian Defense Minister Robertas Kaunas warned. He argued that battlefield setbacks, attacks inside Russia, fuel shortages, and growing public frustration could push the Kremlin to seek a new escalation. Lithuanian officials have also cited intelligence suggesting possible Russian provocations or attacks on critical regional infrastructure aimed at testing NATO unity.
Poland’s foreign minister has previously raised the possibility of a false-flag operation involving Ukrainian drones. In response, Lithuania has strengthened protection of its transportation and energy infrastructure, increased intelligence monitoring, and intensified coordination with NATO and European Union allies.
