Lithuanians storm Polish shops and leave millions here
The prices of Lithuanian products on the Polish side of the border are much lower than in Lithuania itself. This, in turn, causes Polish shops to be stormed by customers from abroad. Experts point out that one of the reasons is the mowing down of small shops by retail chains.
"In Lithuania, VAT on food products is 21 percent, while in Poland it is either 5 percent or 0 percent. As a result, the price of products in the country on the Vistula is automatically 16-21 percent lower. In addition, Polish retail chains buy goods from Lithuanian producers in bulk, and as we know, the wholesale price is usually much more attractive. This, in turn, means that selling goods even with the Polish retail chain's margin, the price on the shelf is much more favorable," Beata Czaplinska, director of the Polish-Lithuanian Chamber of Commerce, emphasized.
