Mark Brzezinski was officially sworn in as the US ambassador to Poland. During the ceremony at the White House, he was nominated by US Vice President Kamala Harris. Brzezinski was accompanied by his daughter Aurora and sister Mika, who held the Bible, on which the appointed diplomat swore. His brother Ian was also present.
This will be Brzezinski's second diplomatic mission as an ambassador. During the tenure of President Barack Obama, he was the US ambassador to Sweden. Previously, he was, inter alia, the director of Russia in the National Security Council in the administration of Bill Clinton. He was also one of Joe Biden's advisers during his victorious presidential campaign in 2020.
Mark Brzezinski is the son of Zbigniew Brzezinski, former national security adviser to President Jimmy Carter, and grandson of Tadeusz Brzezinski, Polish diplomat, and consular officer. He is the brother of Mika Brzezinski, a journalist for the US MSNBC, and Ian Brzezinski, an Atlantic Council expert and former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Europe and NATO.
