mBank CEO Cezary Stypułkowski said at a press conference on Thursday he would prefer that a company not yet operating in Poland to become the bank’s strategic investor, Reuters wrote.
Currently, Commerzbank - which has recently announced that it will sell its controlling stake in mBank - is investigating potential buyers before the formal sale process. Among the banks that have expressed initial interest in mBank are the largest Polish bank PKO BP, the Austrian group Erste, and also (according to press reports) the Hungarian OTP.
ING Bank Śląski, already present on the Polish market, is also interested, according to unofficial reports of Rzeczpospolita. Allegedly, a team of specialists whose task will be to analyze and take over mBank is created.
Despite Stypułkowski's declaration, it is uncertain whether an institution from abroad will buy mBank.
