Min of Finance: there are no changes to banking tax in draft law

Finance Minister Andrzej Domański stated that banks should not complain about taxes, given their high profits supported by elevated interest rates. While there are no concrete plans to change the bank tax, conceptual discussions are ongoing. Some proposals suggest exempting assets like green investments and covered bonds.
Separately, the Finance Ministry will introduce a new tax on banks' earnings from the remuneration of mandatory reserves, noting that Poland is unique in the EU for offering 5.25% interest on these reserves. Domański also reaffirmed upcoming reforms to the capital gains tax (the “Belka tax”), aimed at aligning with EU practices and boosting domestic investment. Final proposals are expected to be announced within days.
