Ministry of Finance involved in collection of PLN 174.5 mln from Gazprom
Finance Minister Andrzej Domański says he is not blocking Poland’s effort to collect PLN 174.5 mln from Gazprom, arguing that his decision concerned only formal issues over which tax office may act in the case. However, UOKiK President Tomasz Chróstny says the move effectively halts enforcement of a final penalty owed to the Polish state budget. The dispute centers on whether Warsaw’s tax office can seek the money from roughly PLN 800 mln in compensation owed to Gazprom for its expropriated EuroPolGaz shares. A Wrocław customs and tax office opposed the move, claiming it could indirectly benefit Gazprom. UOKiK says it will demand legal explanations and continue pursuing the penalty.
