MSC Venice arrives in Gdynia
Gdynia has joined Gdańsk among the Baltic ports capable of handling the world’s largest container ships. The arrival of the 400-meter MSC Venice, with capacity for about 16,600 TEUs, demonstrates the port’s expanded navigational capabilities. Investments in deeper and wider waterways, modern cranes, and terminal infrastructure are expected to raise the Baltic Container Terminal’s annual capacity from roughly 500,000–600,000 TEUs to as much as 1.5 million TEUs.
The expansion strengthens Poland’s logistics security by providing a second major gateway for Far East trade. Additional deep-water terminals are planned in Gdynia and Świnoujście, potentially adding several million TEUs of capacity. Experts say stronger ports could attract industrial investment, improve supply-chain resilience, and expand Poland’s role as a regional logistics hub.
