In 2018, there were about 2.5 million Polish residents who temporarily live abroad, which is by 3 percent less than in 2017, the Central Statistical Office (GUS) reported. The decrease in the number of emigrants occurred for the first time in eight years. GUS attributes this to " the good situation on the Polish labor market, including low unemployment, and also - in the case of Great Britain - the uncertainty associated with Brexit".
Among the EU countries, the largest number of Polish emigrants last year lived in Germany (706,000), Great Britain (695,000), the Netherlands (123,000) and Ireland (113,000).
