PKP Cargo files PLN 1.52 bln claim against Poland’s state treasury
PKP Cargo has submitted a claim to the Prime Minister and the Minister of State Assets demanding payment of PLN 1,522.42 million in compensation for losses resulting from the performance of tasks imposed on the company under a government decision from July 2022. These tasks concerned the transport of coal purchased by PGE Paliwa and Węglokoks, as well as the State Treasury’s failure to conclude an agreement with the company on financing the execution of the tasks covered by those decisions, the company said.
“If the requested amount is not paid within the deadline indicated by the company, PKP Cargo plans to file a lawsuit against the State Treasury with a civil court before the end of 2025,” the statement reads.
The PKP Cargo Group is a rail freight transport operator in Poland and the European Union. PKP Cargo debuted on the Warsaw Stock Exchange in 2013 and reported consolidated revenues of PLN 4.46 billion in 2024.
