Poland among highest cost debt service in EU
Poland is among the EU countries with the highest cost of servicing public debt, according to Eurostat. In 2025, the indicator reached 4.5%, placing Poland second in the bloc, behind only Romania at 5.2%. By comparison, Czechia recorded 3.1% and Italy 3%. The lowest debt-servicing costs were seen in Ireland at 1.4%, Luxembourg at 1.5%, the Netherlands at 1.7% and Germany at 1.8%.
Eurostat noted that in 2024–2025 debt-servicing costs in most EU countries either rose slightly or remained stable. Poland also has one of the higher shares of public debt denominated in foreign currencies, at around 26%. A high servicing-cost ratio means greater pressure on the state budget.
