We will run out of power on Monday – admitted Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne (PSE). The neighbors rushed to help. If on December 6 you don't hear about any blackout, we should thank Sweden, which has launched a reserve oil-fired power plant.
The power plant in Karlshamn acts as Sweden's winter reserve. Bloomberg reports that it was launched after Poland asked for help to cover the deficit in the power system up to 1,700 megawatts.
The power plant is to operate only on Monday from 5.00 to 21.00. Why did the breach even appear? PSE explains that it was an unfortunate combination of several factors: temporary shutdown of the 566 MW coal-fired unit in Kozienice, the shutdown of the 905 MW coal-fired unit in Opole, and, finally, the weak wind, through which the wind farms supplied less energy to the system.
The Energy Regulatory Office has previously reassured us that there are adequate reserves in the Polish power system and we are not in danger of a long blackout. Which does not change the fact that the Government Center for Security has published instructions in the event of long power cuts.
