The United States’ new tariff regime gives Poland a relative advantage over some competing exporters, although its legal basis may still face court challenges. Since July 24, imports from the EU and 18 other economies have faced a 10% tariff, compared with 12.5% for countries including China, Brazil, and Vietnam. Poland’s import-weighted tariff advantage over competitors is estimated at 3.26 percentage points. U.S. imports from Poland were unchanged y/y in the first five months of 2026, but increased 24% in May, driven mainly by copper, silver, and aircraft engines.

However, the tariffs have affected large Polish exporters more strongly than smaller companies, particularly those with exports exceeding EUR 10 mln.
