Major changes are taking place in the fruit market. Depending on the category of fruit, Poland is on the global or EU podium, possibly just behind it in terms of production volume. Growers, however, face a number of serious challenges. Among them are problems with supply chains, the global phenomenon of high inflation, largely caused by oil prices and, consequently, fuels, and growing production in countries located between Poland and Asia.

"Growers try to adapt to the needs of consumers, to market trends, and replace orchards. Some replace them with other varieties of apples, and some simply change the profile, tearing apple orchards, planting berry plantations, or changing them to pear orchards," Maciej Majewski, president of the board of the Sady Grójeckie Association, said.

The report of the Climate Coalition indicates that Poland is one of the largest fruit producers in the EU. With an annual production of around 4.3 million tonnes, we rank third in the EU, after Spain and Italy, and ahead of France and Greece. We are the leader, among others in the production of cherries, raspberries, currants, and gooseberries. Also in the production of apples, Poland ranks first in the EU and third-fourth in world production.
