Poland ranked 10th in the world and second in Europe among the countries with the most complex regulations governing business, according to the latest report prepared by TMF Group, a global company providing business services to companies operating locally and internationally. This is the worst result of our country since the report was prepared for the first time in 2013.
In the report entitled Global Business Complexity Index 2021, TMF Group experts compared the main requirements of individual countries in 77 jurisdictions around the world in terms of administrative regulations and ensuring compliance with legal regulations, faced by entrepreneurs planning to run their business on a selected market.
For the first time in the report's history, Poland was placed in the group of ten most difficult countries to do business in, closing the list. In Europe, it is only in France that it is more difficult to do business than in Poland.
“Poland's worst ever score in terms of ease of doing business is due to frequently changing laws, little transparency on how they are applied, and a smaller package of facilities for foreign investors than in other countries. The time of the pandemic did not help either, but it should be remembered that all countries struggled with a difficult situation in this area, and unfortunately, we did not fare well against their background,” Joanna Romańczuk, Managing Director of TMF Group in Poland, said.
“Reports such as TMF Global Business Complexity Index are signposts for investors planning international development. Companies with capital for development are attracted to those countries where it is easiest to do business. We have a lot of catching up to do, not only in relation to global leaders but also, or maybe above all, to European countries with which we compete for investors,” Joanna Romańczuk added.
