Polish manufacturers worried about Chinese trade in Europe
An analysis of 262 product groups found no broad displacement of Polish suppliers by China. From 2019 to 2025, Poland’s share of EU imports rose from 3.5% to 4.2%, while China’s increased from 7.5% to 8.6%. Poland gained share in 187 product groups, or 71.4%, and both countries mainly displaced other suppliers. Their export strengths overlap only partly.
Chinese competition is putting particular pressure on Polish producers of steel semi-finished products, measuring equipment, boilers and furniture. Poland’s share of EU steel imports fell from 4.7% to less than 1%, while China’s rose to 8.5%. Polish furniture sales still grew about 22%, but more slowly than China’s. The author warns that pressure could spread to entire sectors.
