Chinese Goods Surge in Poland as Strong Zloty Hits Exports

Chinese imports are rapidly gaining ground in Poland, driven by a strong zloty that is undermining the competitiveness of domestic exports. In early 2025, the trade balance shifted as Chinese goods flooded Polish shelves, particularly in consumer electronics and low-cost items.
Analysts point out that the firm zloty, while beneficial for purchasing power, makes Polish exports more expensive abroad. At the same time, it lowers the relative cost of Chinese imports, accelerating their expansion. Despite higher global transport costs, Chinese suppliers remain more competitive than European or regional alternatives.
Polish manufacturers, especially in labor-intensive sectors, are under increasing pressure. Experts warn that without strategic shifts – such as moving to higher-margin or niche products, domestic producers risk being squeezed out.
The government is being urged to support local firms and diversify export markets to counterbalance the surge in imports.
