Poultry from abroad cheaper than domestic production, costing Polish producers
Poland’s poultry industry fears growing competition from outside the EU, including planned additional Mercosur quotas, imports from Ukraine and China’s stronger global position. Poland produced about 3.23 mln tons of poultry meat in 2025 and remains the EU’s largest producer, with around 60% of output exported and two-thirds of exports going to EU markets. Producers warn that cheaper imports from Brazil and Argentina could increase price pressure because non-EU suppliers do not always face the same environmental, welfare and food-safety rules.
The industry says unequal standards create a competitiveness gap of up to 30%. Poland is also trying to expand sales in Asia to reduce dependence on the EU market.
