President of Poland affirms security cooperation with Ukraine
Poland’s president stated that strategic security cooperation with Ukraine remains strong and that President Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit to Warsaw sends a negative signal to Moscow. Speaking after talks at the Presidential Palace, President Karol Nawrocki emphasized that Poland, Ukraine, and democratic countries in the region stand united on key security issues. He also conveyed to Volodymyr Zelensky that many Poles feel Poland’s extensive support for Ukraine, amounting to nearly 5% of GDP since 2022, has not been sufficiently appreciated.
The leaders discussed historical issues, including exhumations of Volhynia massacre victims, and the ongoing Russian threat. Nawrocki reaffirmed Poland’s support for sanctions against Russia and transferring frozen Russian assets to Ukraine, while Zelensky urged both sides to protect bilateral relations from Russian attempts to undermine them.
