A group of the state-owned Industrial Development Agency (ARP) has already lost at least PLN 25 million as a result of buying Gdańsk Shipyard and GSG Towers from a Ukrainian oligarch, writes Gazeta Wyborcza daily.
“The reconstruction of the shipbuilding industry” was one of important slogans of PiS before the 2015 elections. The effects of state involvement are such that Nauta Shipyard had a loss of PLN 51 million in 2018, and War Shipyard lost as much as PLN 26 million. In Gryfia Shipyard, a ferry for Polish Baltic Shipping has theoretically been under construction for two years now, but in fact the design work has not been completed yet.
Gdańsk Shipyard and GSG Towers generated PLN 20.5 million and PLN 68 million losses respectively. To survive, the companies resorted to borrowing from companies controlled by the ARP.
