Transaction in banking market help to improve sector’s offer

The entry of new investors into Poland’s banking sector reflects strong confidence and could boost competition and improve service offerings, said Jacek Jastrzębski, head of the Polish Financial Supervision Authority (KNF). He noted that Poland’s financial sector, especially banking, is a major achievement of the country’s development over recent decades. Jastrzębski emphasized the importance of informing the KNF in advance about planned ownership changes, as was done in Erste Group’s acquisition of a 49% stake in Santander Bank Polska and 50% in Santander TFI for €7 billion.
Erste sees this deal as a strategic move into one of Europe’s most dynamic and profitable banking markets with strong long-term growth potential.
