US President Donald Trump has decided not to attend the World Economic Forum in Davos on January 22, due to the prolonged shutdown of the US federal government. Trump is currently on his way to the border with Mexico, where he intends to rally support for building a wall on the southern US border.
Trump broke off another round of negotiations on Wednesday with democratic representatives of the House of Representatives and the Senate regarding the suspension of the government and financing the wall on the border with Mexico, and left the meeting.
The shutdown entered its 20th day on Thursday as its impact spreads. About 800,000 federal workers will miss their paychecks on Friday. If the shutdown lasts until Saturday, it will be the longest suspension of government work in the history of the United States.
