Ukraine to receive money from sale of Chelsea FC by Roman Abramovich

A British foundation working on behalf of Ukraine will receive £2.3 billion over the next few weeks. The money comes from the sale of the London soccer club Chelsea FC by Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich.
Roman Abramovich had owned Chelsea since 2003. In early March, anticipating sanctions related to the invasion of Ukraine, the Russian put the club up for sale. At the time, he proposed that a foundation be set up to receive money from the sale of the club.
Last spring, an agreement to establish the foundation was reached with the British government. According to it, neither Abramovich nor Chelsea will ever be able to benefit from the money allocated to the foundation.
The Charities Commission is already close to agreeing to the deal, but before it can go through, it must still be approved by the European Union, which has also sanctioned Abramovich.
