The Trump administration has announced new tariffs on imports from 60 trading partners, continuing its aggressive trade policy despite recent legal setbacks. Countries accused of failing to enforce forced-labor bans will face a 10% tariff, while most others will be subject to a 12.5% rate. European Union goods will generally face a 10% tariff, although energy products and certain goods unavailable in the United States are exempt.

The measures replace earlier global tariffs struck down by the U.S. Supreme Court, which led to substantial refunds. The EU has rejected Washington’s allegations and may challenge the new duties at the World Trade Organization. Experts believe Trump is using a more legally durable mechanism while seeking to attract investment to the United States ahead of the midterm elections.
