WHO: 30 new cases of TB in Europe every hour

The European
Region of the World Health Organization (WHO) detects 30 cases of tuberculosis
every hour, according to the latest WHO report. The authors of the report admit
that even in the European Union it will be difficult to eliminate tuberculosis
until 2030, as per recent projections.
The
WHO European Region includes 53 countries, including EU countries and Russia,
Ukraine and Turkey, with over 900 million inhabitants in total. Worst of all,
there have been cases of mycobacteria resistant to treatment (the so-called
multi-drug resistant MDR-TB tuberculosis). According to WHO, almost 4,500
people die every day from this illness worldwide. (PAP)
