WSJ: Putin may carry out limited attack on one NATO country
New U.S. intelligence assessments suggest Russian President Vladimir Putin could test NATO’s resolve within the next few years through a limited attack on a member state, according to The Wall Street Journal. Possible scenarios range from cyberattacks and operations by unmarked armed groups to a limited ground incursion on NATO’s eastern flank. U.S. officials reportedly believe such actions could occur between this fall and 2029. The likelihood of a ground attack remains low but is seen as increasing over time.
Officials say Russia may seek to expose divisions within NATO and weaken confidence in U.S. security guarantees. NATO says it remains vigilant and prepared to deter and defend against potential threats.
