The Central Statistical Office (GUS) informed that in the first half of the year as many as 97,345 apartments with a total usable area of 8.64 million sqm were put into operation. Compared to the same period of the previous year, the number of flats increased by 2,869 (3 percent) and their space increased by 140,200 sqm (1.6 percent).
The GUS added that the average usable space of a newly completed flat amounted to 88.9 sqm and decreased by 1.2 sqm compared to the previous year. The average space of a flat in single-family buildings was 132.8 sqm, while in multi-family buildings 52.5 sqm
In the information from the GUS, we also read that the largest number of new apartments was built in Mazowieckie (18.9 percent of the national value). The following places were taken by Wielkopolskie (10.4 percent) and Dolnośląskie (10.2 percent). The housing construction intensity index, expressed in the number of dwellings completed per 1,000 population for Poland amounted to 2.5, and the highest values were recorded in:Pomorskie (3.6) as well as Mazowieckie and Dolnośląskie (3.4 each).
The GUS explained that in the first half of this year. 64.6 percent of the newly completed flats were built by developers and individual investors (33.6 percent). The remaining flats were built in the cooperative, social, communal and corporate form of construction.
