Easy Payment and Fincard under UOKiK’s magnifying glass
Poland’s Office of Competition and Consumer Protection, UOKiK, is investigating Easy Payment and Fincard over credit card fees that allegedly bypassed legal limits on consumer loan interest. According to UOKiK President Tomasz Chróstny, the companies charged hidden capital interest by adding regular fees and commissions linked to the amount of credit used.
Fincard issues virtual and physical credit cards under the Netcredit and Halvo brands, while Easy Payment offers Axi Card in Poland. UOKiK says both firms charged maximum interest and then added extra costs for card servicing, granting credit limits, or using those limits. Because these fees rose with the amount borrowed, the regulator argues they effectively functioned like additional interest.
If UOKiK confirms violations of collective consumer interests, the companies could face fines of up to 10% of turnover.
