General government debt up to 57.6% of GDP at end of 2020

The debt of the general government sector amounted to PLN 1,335.57 billion at the end of Q4 2020, which means an increase by 2.2 percent q/q and by 27.7 percent y/y, the Ministry announced. Finance. In this approach, the debt to GDP ratio in 2020 amounted to 57.6 percent and increased by 11.9 percentage points y/y.

The state public debt (PDP, calculated according to the Polish methodology) amounted to PLN 1,111.27 billion and increased by 0.5 percent q/q and by 12.1 percent y/y.

The change in PDP throughout 2020 was the result of an increase in the debt of the central and local government subsector, and a decrease in the debt of the social security subsector.

The ratio of PDP to GDP in 2020 was 48% and increased by 4.6 percentage points compared to 2019.
