GUS: demographic changes in Poland fastest in Europe
Statistics Poland (GUS) reports that Poland’s population fell to 37.333 million at the end of 2025, down by more than 157,000 from a year earlier. The population decline rate was 0.42%. Demographic changes are progressing faster in Poland than elsewhere in Europe, driven by persistently low birth rates and high mortality. GUS expects the population to continue shrinking and aging over the coming decades. The median age reached about 44. Children and teenagers accounted for 17.7% of residents, while the working-age population fell to 21.7 million, or 58.2%.
GUS warns that these trends will reduce and age the labor force, creating economic, social, health, and public-policy challenges.
