ING Bank warns about demographic catastrophe in Poland
ING Bank Śląski warns that without a cultural shift toward valuing families and having children, Poland and much of the world face a severe demographic implosion, with first effects felt within a decade and accelerating after 2035. CEO Michał Bolesławski explains that the bank’s unusually long, 10-year strategy focuses on deep demographic trends rather than short-term innovations.
Aging societies, falling birth rates, and shrinking populations will undermine consumption, labor markets, cities, and long-term economic growth; migration alone will not solve the problem. ING sees the issue as existential rather than political and believes banks should use their analytical capacity, capital, and influence to support families, promote parenthood, and prepare society and employees for profound changes driven by demography and AI.
