MEPs Guy Verhofstadt and Sophie in 't Veld (Renew Europe faction in the European Parliament) have started collecting signatures for a motion of no confidence in European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
"Together with Guy Verhofstadt and Luis Garicano, I launched a call to gather signatures for a motion of censure, following the Von der Leyen Commission’s decision on the disbursement of RFF funds to the Polish government," Sophie in 't Veld reported on social media.
The reason is the acceptance of the Polish National Reconstruction Plan by the head of the EC. It takes 71 members of the European Parliament for the proposal to be made.
Last Thursday, the European Commission gave a positive opinion of the Polish National Reconstruction Plan. The project assumes that about €58 billion will come to Poland from the EU Reconstruction Fund – over €23.9 billion in grants and over €34.2 billion in loans. The Ministry of Funds and Regional Policy calculates that, when converted to zlotys, this gives about PLN 158.5 billion (including PLN 106.9 billion of non-refundable grants).
The funds will be disbursed only after the fulfillment of milestones, i.e. the conditions set by the European Commission for our country.
However, the European liberal party ALDE (its members belong to the third-largest political group in the EP – "Renew Europe") is against the payment of the funds to Poland. On Saturday, during its congress in Dublin, ALDE adopted a position that it would support a motion to dismiss the Commission if money from the Reconstruction Fund flows to Poland before the government in Warsaw implements rulings of the EU Court of Justice.
