Tomasz Bęben, president of the SDCM association, warned that without EU sovereignty in chip production, the automotive sector, including in Poland, risks major supply disruptions, leading to a crisis. The automotive industry's need for chips is growing, especially with the shift to electric and autonomous vehicles. The European Chips Act, with over €43 billion earmarked for investments, aims to secure chip supplies. Bęben emphasized the sector's dependence on external chip production, noting disruptions in past supply chains affected Polish manufacturers.
The Chips Act aims to boost Europe's share of global semiconductor production to 20% by 2030 and reduce reliance on non-EU suppliers.
